Young Greens enjoy a busy month of social activities

October was a busy month for the Young Greens with the focus mainly being on having the craic!

Our first gathering was a meet and greet in the Parlour bar on October 8th where we played some ice breakers, discussed aims and goals for the year ahead and had a few drinks. It was a very encouraging first meeting with around 25 people showing an interest in the Young Greens!

Our next meeting had a slightly more serious atmosphere being a screening of Gaslands 2 on October 15th.

Gaslands 2 which had its' premier at the 2013 Tribeca Film Festival highlights how fracking is one of the most important environmental issue facing the world in the 21st century. The film argues that the gas industry's portrayal of natural gas as a clean and safe alternative to oil is a lie and that fracked wells will inevitable leak over time, contaminating water and air, hurting families and polluting the earth's atmosphere with the potent greenhouse gas, methane.

The film is particularly relevant to Northern Ireland, with Australian company Tamboran planning to begin testing to frack Co.Fermanagh from 2014.

Afterwards we discussed fracking and many a topic including renewable energy and Karl Marx even came up!

Our final event for October was lasertag on the 29th-with intentions being to take on our arch enemies...THE TORIES.

However, neither us or the Tories had enough people to form two teams so we ended up forming the worst coalition government ever...

Despite this, everyone had a good night's fun!
